Why This Gathering Exists

We live in a culture that is deeply uncomfortable with grief.

Most of us were never taught how to grieve, how to be with loss, or how to accompany one another through it. Instead, grief is often rushed, privatized, or treated as something to “get through” as quickly as possible.

Even well-intentioned support can miss the mark — not because people don’t care, but because there is so little shared understanding of what grief actually asks of us.

Over time, this leaves many people carrying their grief quietly. Explaining it. Softening it. Managing it so others aren’t unsettled. And when a loss doesn’t fit familiar narratives, isolation can deepen.

These Community Grief Gatherings offer a gentle way to counter that pattern.

They offer a place to slow down and arrive — to let the body settle, to receive simple framing for the month’s loss theme, and to be in the company of others who share a similar terrain. Participation is always by choice: some people speak, some listen, some move or reflect quietly. All of these ways of being are welcome.

This kind of gathering doesn’t take the pain away.
But it often changes how alone — and how heavy — the experience feels.
